Up Close and Personal with Matt Kysor

With the 2013 Southern Ohio Pastors Conference just around the corner, we wanted to spend some time letting you get to know the men who will be speaking at this year’s conference by asking them to answer a few questions for us. Here’s the seventh of a series of posts leading up to the conference on September 21.

What is your ministry background and education?

From 2003 to 2006, I had the great opportunity to attend Regent University in Virginia Beach, Virginia earning a Joint Masters Degree in Practical Theology and Government. During my time there, I was able to serve a local church through a Non-Profit Organization called New Neighborhood Networks that sought to change the lives of those in need through various practical outreaches and community development and partnerships. Little did I know, this time would mold and shape me into becoming an Executive Pastor of a Church Plant several years later. Since 2009, I have the distinct privilege of serving as an XP with some of my best friends, Chris and Kristyn VanBuskirk.

What are some ways that your background in ministry has helped prepare you for your current ministry context?

In both education and experience, I have learned several administrative and organizational functions that help the church from an organizational and business perspective. In my current role as an Executive Pastor, I firmly believe God has called my wife and I to support our Lead Pastors administratively so they can focus solely on serving and leading the local church.

What is God doing in your church and/or community right now that is really exciting?

Wow – where to start. It’s humbling to think that God lets us be a part of his redemptive story right here in our own community. Over the last 12 months, God has created sustainable momentum in our church that has resulted in eternal life change. Back in July, our church celebrated in nearly 50 baptisms from people who have encountered Jesus. Through it all, God has allowed this growth to cause us to move to a new and exciting venue to allow us to have a greater impact in our city and community.

What do you hope to see accomplished by the SOPC?

I love the vision of the SOPC which is to support local churches and pastors by forming lasting relationships and collaboration. I’m excited about what God is doing through this coalition as we seek to work together to spread the Gospel and lead more people to the cross.
