Speaker Spotlight: Drew Karst

With the 2015 Family Conference just around the corner, we wanted to spend some time helping you get to know our speakers for this year’s conference by asking them to answer a few questions for us. Here’s the first of a series of posts we will be running over the next two weeks leading up to the conference on April 18.

Plenary Session 1 – Biblical Foundations of the Family

Drew serves at Grace Community Church as the Elder for Marriage and Family Ministries and has many years of experience. He has served the church in an Elder capacity in the south central area since 1996. He started Laurel Valley Baptist Church in 2000 and pastored there until coming to Grace Community in 2011. He has worked toward a degree in Pastoral Ministry from Trinity College of the Bible in Newburg, Indiana and Clear Creek Baptist Bible College in Pineville, Kentucky. He and his lovely wife Debbie have lived and raised their 8 children in Laurelville, Ohio for the last 26 years. They are now enjoying a second generation with 3 grandchildren.

What do you feel is the most pressing issue for the Christian family today?

I believe the most pressing issue for the Christian family today is men who need to be intentional and passionate about producing a Christian family. We need to get rid of the preoccupation with careers and hobbies and so many other things that compete with our primary goal: that of pouring ourselves into molding Godly wives and arrows for the LORD.

Why do you feel this kind of conference is important for our region?

I am excited that the entire family is involved in this conference and pray that it will breathe life into Christian homes so that the entire family can get a hold of the truth that Christ has a purpose and responsibility for everyone in the family unit. I also pray that this conference and our churches would begin to recognize and minister to any father-less families that are here to show them they too are not without importance and purpose which, for all of us, come from our Awesome Heavenly Father.

Which conference session (other than your own) are you most excited about?

I am most excited about the breakout session involving spiritual disciplines in the family because that seems to be forgotten and lacking in today’s Christian culture.
