Waverly CROP Walk Celebrates 30th Anniversary

Did you know that this is year 30 for a Pike County CROP walk? CROP stands for Communities Responding to Overcome Poverty. The Church World Service (CWS) has partnered with many church groups to eradicate hunger and poverty and to promote global peace and justice.

Over that last 30 years volunteers from local churches and citizens of Pike County have marched each year to help local conditions of hunger, homelessness and national and international hunger needs. 25% of contributions that are raised by participants goes to our local Pike County food pantry.

By taking one step, you can feed the hungry, help children, give hope, heal the sick, and change our world to make it a better place for others through the services of the Pike County Outreach Council of Churches and CWS.

The conditions of many people around the world and especially persecuted Christians are depicted in 1 Corinthians 4:11-13 (NIV)

11 To this very hour we go hungry and thirsty, we are in rags, we are brutally treated, we are homeless. 12 We work hard with our own hands. When we are cursed, we bless; when we are persecuted, we endure it; 13 when we are slandered, we answer kindly. We have become the scum of the earth, the garbage of the world—right up to this moment.

This year’s CROP walk will occur on September 20, beginning with registration at 1:00 pm at the Family Life Center, High & Third Streets, Grace United Methodist Church. In the past an extensive walk extended from Lake White to downtown Waverly. This year there will be a one mile symbolic walk on level downtown Waverly streets. Anyone who would like to participate or give donations should contact Judy Dixon, Executive Director of Pike County Outreach Council of Churches, 107 W. 2nd St., Waverly, Ohio 45690. Phone: (740) 947-7151, or visit the Waverly CROP Hunger Walk website.
